Ground was officially broken for Redeemer's new Family Life Center shortly after 10:30 a.m. on Sunday, March 2, 2008.
Over a hundred people braved the chilly weather to pay their respects to the soon-to-be-demolished old gymnasium and also celebrate the beginning of new construction.
Specially selected for the honor of tossing the first shovels of dirt were longtime Redeemer members George Fretz and Joe House.

Pastor Keith Johnson officiated the special service, which took place both inside and outside the gym. Those in attendance sang hymns, offered prayers of thanksgiving and dedication, and listened to remarks from both Pastor Johnson and Cuyahoga Falls Mayor Don Robart. Recognition was made of the many ways the gymnasium and former sanctuary touched the lives of Redeemer Lutheran Church members and Redeemer Christian School families.
